Over on my BlueSky, I’ve started another minor project. Every single day, I’m posting one game from my game collection. I’m leaning towards lesser-talked about titles that people may not have tried. To make things easier to digest, I’ll also be doing monthly wrap-ups of those posts here on one single page for easier viewing.
A charming port of a PSP puzzle platformer with clever design and well-executed levels. A fun lil’ game well worth a look. The wii may have been full of shovelware, but it does have some very cheap fun games. This is a BLAST with multiple people. A simple competitive puzzle game that wouldn’t feel out of place in the modern indie party game scene.A lite tactical RPG multiplayer board game. Neat concept and fun with friends. Just because a game is a budget title doesn’t mean it can’t be fun and interesting.A licensed platformer that’s much more. Excellently designed levels loaded with secrets to hunt down. A blast to complete. Also hard…Sometimes all a game needs is to be good, dumb fun. Fly down hills at crazy speeds and try not to die. Endlessly enjoyable light racing game thats always good for a quick pick up and play.Occasionally, Game Freak gets a break from Pokemon, and when they do they tend to make enjoyable, charming games. Like this one, a mech platformer with clever boss design and mechanical variety that also happens to be heckin’ cute. Deserved a sequel, or at least more players…A quirky dungeon-crawler that’s a bit rough around the edges, but enjoyable. Has a Pokemon-style mechanic and tons of off-the-wall weirdness. Also, its loosely tied to Genesis classic Landstalker!A charming Dragon Quest spinoff with very unique gameplay mechanics. A genuine one-of-a-kind game.A skydiving game on PS1. What’s the gameplay like? It’s not what you’d expect. Its basically a rhythm game? Is it good? Probably not. But its fascinating.
A creative and unique seek-em-up game with object throwing action that's just dumb silly fun.
Part of Midway’s “Thunder” series (Hydro Thunder, etc). This one is rough around the edges, and not nearly as good as Hydro, but amusing for pick up and play. Has weapons and decent track design.A clever platformer with unique level designs that blend exploration adventure elements and fun abilities. Good sense of humor too. Well worth a playthrough for 3D platformer fans. One of the Squaresoft peak-era classics that has not yet been brought back. A fun and challenging action RPG with unique mechanics, tough boss fights, and tons of charm and humor. An under-rated Pacman style maze game. Both the arcade version and NES port are worth checking out. Even more fun if you can play competitive multiplayer.A stylish and hard as hell shmup with cool mechanics that I’m absolutely dreadful at.
Really enjoyed my time with the remake collection of these adventure games. Great stories, likeable characters, solid puzzles. I want to sit down and finally play the original on DS pictured here someday. For sure get the collection though.
A really fun puzzle game thats great for casually passing time. Simple but challenging on higher levels. Definitely wish we got a console or arcade version of this. Though any excuse to use the CLICKY STICK!
I didn’t even start playing yet before I was laughing and in disbelief at how absurd this game is (in a good way). Once you get used to the controls, its a silly, fun, light game that’s 100% worth looking at.You know what we needed? A gritty reboot of Space Invaders! Is it good… not really. Is it interesting… kinda? Is it junk food level of dumb? Yeah.
A three for one! I've never been shy about sharing my love for Taito. The Legends collections are MUST owns for any retro video game fan. Bonus: a couple awesome Taito books.
A unique top-down perspective platform puzzle-y game exclusive to JPN Gameboy.
There is no reason to think this game is good, but it is. A true definition of “hidden gem” in that it seems like it’d be shovelware but its actually an enjoyable little arcade-y racing game. A must own for N64 collectors.Sometimes, a game gets by on being hilariously campy alone. This one will certainly get a reaction out of you at least. A clunky mess of a survival horror game worth struggling through just for the laughs. PIIIIIIPOOOOOOOOOA simple but fun side scrolling slasher. The arcade version is good too, but the NES game has unique bonus areas hidden away. Decent little cheap NES pickup.
People slept on this game TWICE now. A star-studded action RPG that deserves a lot more players.
A unique and varied Pinball game with many modes and weird gameplay gimmicks. Hard to get good at, but easy to enjoy. Also has cool 2 player modes. The fact we didn’t get the GBA Stafy (or Starfy) games in the west is criminal. Kirby-esque adventure platformers well worth playing.A worthy sequel to Bubble Bobble with some challenging level design. Better with a friend as all good Bubble Bobble is.Kenji Eno’s crowning achievement. A true one of one survival body horror… RPG… FPS… thing. Wildly unique final boss too.A better than people think sequel to the Wario Land games, made by Good-Feel before they hit it big with Kirby’s Epic Yarn.A sci fi dungeon crawler with interesting ideas, but flawed execution. Still, a rarity as far as genre goes for OG Xbox.
