Over on my BlueSky, I’ve started another minor project. Every single day, I’m posting one game from my game collection. I’m leaning towards lesser-talked about titles that people may not have tried. To make things easier to digest, I’ll also be doing monthly wrap-ups of those posts here on one single page for easier viewing.
Mark my words, people will come around on FFXIII. Especially it’s under-rated sequel that improved on everything from the first game. Great stuff.
The OTHER other extremely hard first person RPG dungeon crawler from Fromsoft. Has some interesting ideas in it’s rough shell. Like most of their output, actually…The less talked about of the two Yoshi puzzle games of this era. Simple yet addictive game.Feels appropriate today. PS2 launch title. The fireworks game. It’s certainly interesting and one of a kind. Visually showed off PS2s advancements well. One of the best action-RPG Zelda-y games out there. The middle chapter in Quintet’s fantastic sorta-trilogy. Has some surprisingly dark story beats…A combination of action RPG and third person shooter soaked in anime. The few hours I played were a bit monotonous but enjoyable enough. The Kirby game trapped on Wii U. Amazing art direction and fun level design. Please port this to a good console…
A decently fun platformer mostly held back by one of the most mind-breakingly stupid design choices I’ve ever seen in a video game.
One of the best games on PS2. A true hidden gem. Top down shooter with bullethell bosses and excellent gameplay design. A genuine banger and a BLAST with two players. MUST PLAY for action fans.Highly impressive vertical shooter for the Gameboy. Play as a giant robot and blow shit up, what more do you need?A funny action-platformer with light RPG elements. Like a Satuday morning cartoon come to life.Square’s answer to Space Harrier. Made by Hironobu Salaguchi and Nasir Gebelli right around the time they were making the original Final Fantasy. One of my favorite racing games. High octane stunt racing with levels that have cool secrets to look for and a fun stunt mode too!The Dark Souls of Ghosts ‘n Goblins games. This game is as cheesy and ridiculous as it looks. Kudos for trying the “multiple styles of play” thing though.A strange ball(?) racing game? A little messy but you can’t say it isn’t unique…I feel like the limp reaction to the first game made is so the far better sequel got mostly ignored. Excellent classic 2D platformer level design and a genuinely clever way of doing a final level.A very strange first person motion controlled slasher take on Dragon Quest. Can’t say it’s like anything else out there.
A standard but decent action game with a cool additional gameplay hook. But what really sells it is exceptional world design. This started my love of Dont Nod’s fantastic narrative work.
I mentioned Rayman Rush not too long ago. This is a better version of that. Fun platform-racing and enjoyable combat mini-games too. Great with friends.A solid bowling game, though once you learn positioning it’s a bit easy to destroy it…One of the best Metroidvania’s ever made. Brilliant movement, excellent level design, engaging story. Fuck Ubisoft, but you gotta play this game.A window into the ’00s edgy humor that ran rampant in games for awhile. What little I’ve played wasn’t awful gameplat-wise either.A visually stylish shmup from Treasure. One of the few games in the genre to actually be localized in the west on PS2.A budget FPS with some cool mechanics and set pieces that make it a surprisingly engaging playthrough. A real “hidden gem”.A spectacular sequel to a great game. Has one of the single best plot twists I’ve ever seen a game pull off.One of the most wild and over-the-top action games ever made. Truly a must-experience madness with unique gameplay design.A unique open world color-em-up with playful design and a silly sense of humor. A good example of the NES staple of taking a fairly simple arcade game and expanding on it. A really unique platformer that I wish they’d have built off of.A simple arcadey game which I mostly find interesting because it was directed by Frederick Raynal, aka the guy what created Alone in the Dark. One of the best horror stories in a game. Genuinely unsettling. Also, a very expensive game…
