Over on my BlueSky, I’ve started another minor project. Every single day, I’m posting one game from my game collection. I’m leaning towards lesser-talked about titles that people may not have tried. To make things easier to digest, I’ll also be doing monthly wrap-ups of those posts here on one single page for easier viewing.
My second favorite Harvest Moon game because you can have a pet raccoon.Pure stupid mayhem. Chasing the GTA3 money, but with a Sega-esque comedy arcade vibe. A bad game but very silly fun.RPG meets mobile game but it works? I feel like this sparked a trend that kinda faded fast. Good casual fun though. One of the best frantic fast paced puzzle games. Such an under-rated Sega banger. Needs a modern Switch port or sequel.Peak gamble gamez Data East’s take on Bubble Bobble. Probably play the arcade version over this one though…As off the walls ridiculous as you’d imagine a game where you play as Shamu the whale would be.Speaking of sea life… I’m only recommending this game because it exists. It’s a… strange… puzzle game and worth checking out because its a “Premium Value Product”!
A classic JRPG with decent challenge, likeable characters, and stellar music. Doesn’t matter how you play Lunar, just play Lunar! (Ok probably not the GBA version…)
The DS has a ton of simple puzzle games, so why not get one with silly lil’ squishable tanks as the mascot?Under rated amongst the Capcom licensed platformers of the era. A very solid game with clever mechanics and decent challenge.A monster creator RPG. Fairly bare bones, but unique and has the spoopy vibe.A minigame collection of sorts, feels like a precursor to the Wii.I’m not quite sure how to describe this game, but it sure is a unique multiplayer experience.A Link’s Awakening style game by way of Bomberman puzzle bosses in a semi-open world? Crazy cool concept and well worth checking out.A fun arcade port to a fairly simple hack-n-slash side scroller, but I always enjoyed the NES version. If you like a lot of blood in your goofy slashy action games, this one is for you.A unique murder mystery adventure game with cool mechanics, amazing environmental design, and an enjoyable story. A real under-rated game for the era.
Klonoa’s first mobile game and first sequel! Uses both horizontal and vertical play modes on the Wonderswan and establishes the more puzzle platformer style the GBA games would later use.
I sure hope this penguin racing game is better than the awful attempt at a pun that is it’s name. It’s not but…I mean… it’s a quirky Dreamcast exclusive so… give it a look anyway.A decent enough action RPG with some cool story elements. A bit simple, but enjoyable. This game is fucking stupid. But you will laugh playing it.If you’ve never tried Crystal Chronicles, you should. A unique action RPG thats a blast with friends.Ok, its bad. But load it up with save states and push through. It’s ahead of It’s time and does some genuinely impressive stuff for the time.A better than you’d think licensed platformer. Another Capcom published NES hidden gem. It’s actually a conversion of a Famicom Disk System gameA pretty straight forward version of the oft-forgotten Taito arcade puzzle game. Still a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.I know it’s cool to hate on Quantic Dream, and while the story falls off the rails at the end and it’s full of David Cageisms, this game still did a lot of cool stuff for the time and has the charm of a cheeseball B movie.Really cool action game with a control scheme that emphasizes verticality and frantic action. I don’t know how to describe this game? It’s a smaller scale citybuilder that focuses more on the individual citizens? It’s certainly unlike any other game of It’s kind.An excellent open world action RPG that tells a gripping story led by two well-written characters. A lot of focus on side quests as important elements of the game narrative.Four player fighting game where you can play as Bruce Campbell, Karl Urban (who most people forgot played fucking Julius Caesar!) and Ted Raimi. Do I have to say more?
