Over on my BlueSky, I’ve started another minor project. Every single day, I’m posting one game from my game collection. I’m leaning towards lesser-talked about titles that people may not have tried. To make things easier to digest, I’ll also be doing monthly wrap-ups of those posts here on one single page for easier viewing.
A Taito classic. Endlessly playable and challenging, even if it’s simple by today’s standard.Only posting this one to show off these ridiculous controllers for this game only. This one is for the goofy peripheral sickos.Love this series. Glad it got a new installment recently. Stylish arcadey racing with vibes for days. Definitely try some of the other games in the franchise.A quirky puzzle game with a fun aethetic.A pretty faithful remake insofar as it captures the feel of playing a PS1 game in a lot of ways. With some QoL and better controls, this is a decent way to play this game. It’s also kinda hard…A decent clone of Pocky & Rocky. Fast paced and clunky as all hell, but not awful. In honor of Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots, here is the one I’ve played the most. Peak golf fun.The forgotten Kirby spin off. Simple, but way more fun than you’d think. A Switch port with online multiplayer would be awesome.Sure it looks… like DKC on Gameboy would and maybe the small screen makes it hard to play but dammit, it’s still a solid platformer! An unusual use of the Wii’s controller that doesn’t quite land, but is still unique and interesting. If you want Castlevania, here it is. This game gets slept on, but its loaded with great abilities and bosses that make it an exciting Metroidvania.A “me too” platformer with several obvious influences. It’s clunky and a mess but it does try a lot of things and the ambition is worth seeing first hand. One of my favorite puzzle adventure games of all time. Truly satisfying puzzles that leave you feeling satisfied. Also helps it’s a visual treat.A perfectly playable throwback to classic Mickey platformers that I think people plain forget exists. Just ignore the awful touch screen gimmicky stuff…
It’s just as good as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus and I won’t hear any arguments…
Another very fun arcade port on NES. Gets quite challenging.A first person punch ’em up? Weird game that takes some getting used to, but it’s certainly unique and challenging. Also first person vomiting?Zelda, but voxel-y. The gimmick of filling the screen with a giant sword is fun. This is still Fromsoft hard at times too. While the PS1 Frogger revival is known, the follow ups aren’t as talked about. They’re fun and surprisingly hard.A great way to play a classic. Faster and more intense than the arcade original.
I don’t care if it’s well known, it’s my birthday and I can post my favorite game of all time if I want to!
A good collection of arcade classics. Has a few you don’t often see in collections.Sometimes you have to admire ambition? They really went all in on this one. The result is a cluttered mess of ideas, none of which come close to landing… but it’s a fascinating trainwreck at the very least.A horizontal shmup but you hire a squad of people with different stats and march around together. Wholly unique and definitely a hidden gem on GB.A janky platform shooter where half the time you play as a giant dinosaur mech? What’s not to love?Charming platformer that gets quite challenging. Also has a handy remake out now!My favorite version of my favorite well puzzler. Colorful characters and refined gameplay that keeps the formula fresh and fun. It’s crazy this game exists. Outside of it’s slightly sleazy (on purpose) concept, it’s an engaging puzzle game with quite a lot of… unique..m ideas.Colorful platformer that makes solid use of its magnet mechanics. Loads of Dreamcast vibes too.A semi-open world platformer with mazes and obtuse puzzles that you have to beat four times to get the real ending of? That’s the kind of ambitious nonsense I can’t help but love. Fun game.
