Over on my BlueSky, I’ve started another minor project. Every single day, I’m posting one game from my game collection. I’m leaning towards lesser-talked about titles that people may not have tried. To make things easier to digest, I’ll also be doing monthly wrap-ups of those posts here on one single page for easier viewing.
A cool tunnel racer that looks awesome on Gameboy with an impressive depth of field effect on the car driving up the side of the tube.Cool Nintendo adventure game with some clever design and fun beach vibes. Why they have seemingly forgotten this franchise is beyond me.
Two cinematic action games with great story and character development. Just don’t play if you don’t like rats. So… so many rats.
A crazy sequel. Way more game, and way more… variety? The game leans into some silliness with two strange new characters to play as. Fun game with some quirky mechanics.A clever and pleasant little puzzle game that feels somewhat lost in Nintendo’s deep library. If you haven’t, give it a shot. It does some really cool stuff. An interesting idea that falls short but is worth checking out. Its a top down magnetism based platformer. Cute ps1 charm art direction too.A cool Zelda-like with a unique run mechanic that you’ll either find interesting or hate. Lends itself to interesting combat and movement puzzles.A neat little puzzle game, very affordable and an easy quick pick up for casual PS2 collecting and play.Turning the best arc of the show into a tactical RPG was a bold decision. It didn’t quite land, but it’s novel to see all the characters you know from the anime. If you want fast paced mech battling with a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater-esque licensed music soundtrack… here ya go!Gritty Pacman Metroidvania may have fell short of my expectations, but it still merits a playthrough.A great update to an arcade classic. Same mashy multiplayer goodness that requires zero brain power. Just kill hordes of mobs with friends. As bad as this game is (and it is bad!), it really captures that cheeseball era of arcade lightgun shooters perfectly. Worth playing just for that.My favorite Klonoa game, and even remastered I feel like not enough people talk about how excellent this game is. One of my all time favoeite platformers even.A port of a lesser-known arcade brickbreaker game. Cool designs and the NES version has super charming sprite work.A bizarre take on YuGiOh. Super difficult and kinda boring, but it’s at least interesting.A pleasant little maze game featuring Asmik’s failed mascot character. A decent enough game for quick pick up and play. A cool sequel to the PS1 classic Devil Dice that I feel like no one even knows exists.
Cheating a bit today by picking a new game, but this is honestly the best Pokemon game I’ve played in ages. If you’ve been uninterested in Pokemon for awhile, this is a warm vibes way to get back into the series.
The game the introduced a lot of 80s kids to the idea of “frustration”. Still a classic arcade port though.A far better dogfighting (lol I get it) game than you’d think. Not robust or deep by any means, but good clean arcadey fun with classic characters.A really awesome platform adventure game spin off of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. Pretty ambitious for a GB game too.Not the MOST ideal way to play arcade classics, but you get a lot of value from this package. No matter how, everyone should play Metal Slug. Time for more Kirby! Lots more Kirby in fact! Another less talked about Kirby game, but one thats pretty impressive. Takes a concept that should be repetitive quick, but does tons of unique ideas with it. The level design variety in this game is exceptional.A really compelling semi-open world vampire game with some really cool mechanics surrounding NPC interactions and your choices about turning them or not shaping their future within the game world. It’s spooky season, so play Luigi’s Mansion 3, which does some great stuff with the series formula and oozes scary charm.A skateboarding game that came with a tiny fingerboard you attach to the PS2 analog stick to control it. Yes, it works about as well as you’d expect but my GOD if it isn’t wildly out of control ambitious. And we appreciate that around here.A fun little cart-racing style RC car racer. Plays decent and has enough variety to keep it engaging for longer than most of it’s kind.Another fun arcade port on NES. One of Data East’s lesser talked about games, but just as over the top as their classics.A middle of the road action game that does a lot of interesting stuff with the Matrix license, both in terms of gameplay and story. A rule of cool game if there ever was one.For my spooky Halloween game, how about a licensed title that in no way should be good. But is awesome! A haunted house that plays out like a 3D adventure game, each room has genuinely creative and interesting puzzles. This game is original in ways you cannot imagine.
