Over on my BlueSky, I’ve started another minor project. Every single day, I’m posting one game from my game collection. I’m leaning towards lesser-talked about titles that people may not have tried. To make things easier to digest, I’ll also be doing monthly wrap-ups of those posts here on one single page for easier viewing.
A charming little maze game that can definitely get a bit challenging. Also has a handy remake out now!A really stylish action adventure game with interesting story. Great if you want to scratch that Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver itch.Part Zelda. Part JRPG. Part… racing game? Wildly unique game with stunning art direction. A real cool hidden gem on Dreamcast.Sometimes a sports game just has to be simple and fun. This is a must-own sports NES game.Having played it recently, Jet Moto holds up! I feel like it’s been forgotten to time, but it’s still a fun arcade racing series. Might as well pick the most popular of the three.A cool sidescrolling motorbike racing game with loops and jumps. Clumsy, but unique.Adventure RPG by way of pinball game. Really novel idea at the time, and the execution is decent if not a bit ordinary. Still fun though. If immature cartoon humor is your thing, this one is for you. At least it’s a unique gameplay experience? The forgotten Wario game. A cool 3D platformer with some interesting tweaks to Wario gameplay. Also its by, of all developers, Treasure!I always support when a company takes a risk with an established license. I’ve already talked up another crazy Bomberman spin-off, so why not it’s first attempt at a 3D sorts-platformer adventure game? Really cool design and twists on Bomberman gameplay. This game could have gotten by exclusively on it’s awesome movement, but it also drips atmosphere, is filled with clever puzzles, and uh… you can pet your bird friend. So that’s cool.A charming action(?) rhythm game where you run around and activate little circles on the ground to the music. A lot of frantic fun. Solid tunes too. I am also bad at it.Competitive multiplayer jigsaw puzzlin’. More fun than you’d think.Hockey games just hit different in the 90s. Blades of Steel is a killer arcade game and a great NES port. Pure fun, especially with friends.I’m not that huge on bro humor or over the top FPS games, but somehow this one is just ridiculous enough to land?Metal Gear Solid but kinda jank? A stealth action game thats more fun than you’d think at first glance. Mostly known as an N64 game, but the PS2 port is also good. One of my favorite versions of Puzzle Bobble. Has a unique well-tipping mechanic where the whole play field shifts. Cool stuff.A cool platformer shooter with mild shmup elements. Plays really well and is a lot of fun for such a simple game.Cheating today by picking a well loved game, but I still feel like the series doesn’t get the credit it deserves for sheer creativity.Another one of those NES “port an arcade game but add to it” games. Takes a LOT of getting used to, but is fun enough.
A perfect update of a classic. Full of content and stuff to do to keep you racing forever. Kirby is back! But also you should try the original while you’re at it.
A fun shmup by way of the wild west. Plays really well on NES.I feel like people don’t know Crazy Taxi is on PS2. If you don’t have a Dreamcast, you can still play a version of the arcade classic on older hardware.A decent attempt at a single player Phantasy Star Online. Keeps the nice looking aesthetic and design but pulls it back for a solid RPG.A spin-off action game in the Soulcalibur series. It’s pretty basic but can be dumb fun, especially with two players and looks solid for a wii game. Definitely an oddity.A fun fighting game that I’m shocked didnt become a franchise. Feels like it should have been built upon and added to.A surprisingly ambitious and interesting strategy RPG for the 3DO of all consoles. Its sluggish as all hell but has some cool ideas and delicious early 3D low poly aesthetic goodness. This forgotten Dig Dug seqeul somehow combines Dig Dug and Dig Dug 2 into a single two-screen Dig Dug game, which is quite novel. Dig Dug.Not the most obscure, but if you’ve never played this stylish and creative brawler, you’re missing out on manic fun.
A stylish hack and slash loaded with enough visual flare to keep you oooing and aahing the whole time. Also has a handy remaster out!
